Performed by a trained Reiki Teacher, the attunement is the key that enables us to access the energy easily and consistently. Reiki cannot be learned from reading a book, or someone else’s class notes, because it is a system that is passed down from teacher to student via the attunements. In the Reiki class the four attunements raise the student’s energy field to a higher vibratory level, activating fully the capacity to heal.
The attunement initiates a process which fine-tunes, balances and aligns the student’s energy system, allowing them to become a channel for universal energy. The attunement process has been likened to a radio being tuned to a specific station. Like radio waves, universal energy is all around us. The attunement process ‘tunes’ our energy fields so that we can receive the Reiki ‘frequency’.
The attunement process is like a Reiki treatment, in that you have to experience it to know what it is like. It is a bit like trying to explain to someone what something they’ve never eaten tastes – you can explain ‘til you are blue in the face, and they still won’t know what the food tastes like. Receiving a Reiki treatment, or Reiki attunements is the same.
During the attunements you sit on a chair with your feet flat on the floor and the palms of your hands together. Most attunements take around about five minutes. Some students see colours or visions, or feel warmth or tingling around their body during the attunement, others simply feel very relaxed. Just as everyone experiences a Reiki treatment differently, so do people have their own experiences of a Reiki attunement, and what happens during an attunement is less important than the fact that after the attunements you can always access the Reiki to use for yourself and others.
